AI in Business

Implement AI safely, without taking risks

Many managing directors hesitate to implement artificial intelligence across the board. Concerns about GDPR and the EU AI Act are holding back valuable innovations. A simple ban does not help either. It drives employees into uncontrolled shadow usage, where sensitive data is exposed without protection.

As an AI agency, we show you ways to use AI safely in your company. We advise you independently on which operating model suits your data and implement the solution technically. This way, you get the benefits of the technology without compromising your compliance.

Operating AI Safely

What options are there for
operating AI safely ?

Using artificial intelligence in everyday business is no longer a niche topic. For data protection officers, it is one of the most challenging tasks of the digital strategy. GDPR applies, but the data flows of modern language models inevitably cross borders. These four options are available to companies.

EU-hosted open-source models

The pragmatic middle ground: Open models operated by a European provider like Mistral on servers within the EU. The data remains in Europe, GDPR is structurally satisfied. The provider handles its own DevOps effort, hardware investments, and system maintenance. We seamlessly integrate these solutions into your processes.

Public AI Services

Freely available chatbots like ChatGPT or Claude are ready to use and low-threshold. For simple tasks without data protection concerns, they are ideal. It becomes critical with trade secrets or personal data: These services process inputs on US servers and may use them for model training. From a GDPR perspective, this is not permissible for sensitive data.

EU Cloud with Data Residency

European cloud locations keep data within the EU, such as in Frankfurt, Dublin, or Paris. This solves data sovereignty. However, the price is high: Companies need DevOps structures, MLOps expertise, and ongoing maintenance. For small and medium-sized businesses, the investment often barely pays off.

On-Premises on Your Own Hardware

Local open-source models like Llama, Gemma, or Qwen run on your own hardware. The data does not leave the network, data sovereignty is maximal. However, the effort is considerable: GPUs, runtime environments, and model maintenance require comprehensive expertise. Scaling quickly hits physical limits.

Use Cases

What you can achieve with a data protection-friendly AI

A GDPR-compliant AI infrastructure allows companies to automate highly sensitive processes without taking compliance risks. Three examples from our practice as an AI agency:

  • Intelligent knowledge databases: Using the RAG method (Retrieval Augmented Generation), you transform internal documentation into a queryable knowledge base. New employees onboard faster, and company knowledge stays within the company when someone leaves.

  • Faster evaluation of tenders: The AI reads procurement documents, pre-qualifies them, and creates initial request documentations. This often reduces the processing time for offers from two weeks to a few days.

  • 24/7 customer service: Intelligent assistants answer recurring inquiries, even with personal data in a GDPR-compliant manner. Around 60% of first-level tickets can be automated this way, freeing up the team for complex cases.

Which use case fits you, we clarify in the free potential analysis.

How We Bring AI Into Your Business

1. Free Initial Consultation

In a non-binding conversation, we clarify your requirements and check where artificial intelligence can truly help in your processes. You receive an initial assessment of effort, costs, and suitable operating model.

2. Potential Analysis

Together, we evaluate your use cases and data. The result is a recommendation for the appropriate infrastructure, compliant with the EU AI Act and GDPR, plus a list of applications that pay off the fastest.

3. Implementation & Integration

We integrate AI into your existing applications and workflows, via API or as a self-hosted model. Following the Human-in-the-Loop principle, AI provides suggestions, but a human makes the final decision.

3. Implementation & Integration

4. Operation & Evolution

We support the operation, keep models and infrastructure up to date, and gradually expand the AI to include new use cases. This way, the system grows with your company.

AI at Laramate

What does artificial intelligence bring to your business?

We integrate AI and language models into your software and automate tasks that previously required manual work. This ranges from document classification to end-to-end process automation. The Human-in-the-Loop principle applies: AI assists, humans make the decisions.

Human-in-the-Loop

A human always retains control and makes the final decision. This ensures every AI deployment remains traceable and accountable.

API Integration

We integrate the APIs of established providers like OpenAI and Anthropic directly into your existing applications and workflows.

Self-Hosted AI

For sensitive data, we set up self-hosted AI models. Your data does not leave your systems and remains under your control.

EU AI Act Compliant

We develop AI solutions in compliance with the EU AI Act and GDPR. Transparency, traceability, and data protection are part of the implementation from the start.

Frequently Asked Questions about AI

The EU AI Act is the world's first comprehensive law regulating artificial intelligence. It categorises AI systems by risk level: prohibited, high-risk, limited-risk, and minimal-risk.

Our AI integrations deliberately fall into the limited-risk and minimal-risk categories. We do not process data classified as high-risk, such as biometric identification or critical infrastructure. Instead, we focus on workflow automation, content generation, and process optimisation.

We also meet all transparency obligations: AI-generated content is clearly labelled, and we document which AI models are used and what data is processed. You receive a full overview of every AI component in your project.

Your data is processed exclusively on our own servers in Germany and the EU. We use self-hosted open-source AI models (such as via Ollama), so no data is sent to third-party AI providers like OpenAI or Google. For particularly sensitive applications, we can also implement fully offline AI systems.

We consistently implement human-in-the-loop systems. In practice, this means AI handles suggestions and routine tasks, but key decisions are always made by people. Our systems include built-in safeguards and escalation paths that activate whenever the AI is uncertain or thresholds are exceeded.

We primarily work with open-source large language models (LLMs) such as Llama, Mistral, and Code Llama, which we self-host via Ollama. For specialised applications, we also use smaller, purpose-built models for text classification or data extraction. Where needed, we can implement API-based solutions with providers like OpenAI or Anthropic, always with explicit consent and appropriate data protection agreements in place.

The cost of AI integrations varies depending on the complexity and scope of your project. Since we primarily use self-hosted open-source models, there are no ongoing licence fees for external AI services. The investment mainly covers the development and integration of AI features into your existing systems.

In a free initial consultation, we analyse your requirements and provide a transparent quote. Many of our clients recoup the investment within just a few months through saved working hours and optimised processes.
